NEA Position on ESEA This website shares the National Education Association's response to the US Department of Education's blueprint on ESEA reauthorization and links to other documents related to these topics.

CCSSO Model Core Teaching Standards The Council of Chief State School Officers released this draft of Model Core Teaching Standards that outline what teachers should know and be able to do to help all students reach the goal of being college and career ready in today’s world.

A User's Guide to Peer Assistance and Review This Harvard Graduate School of Education website provides information on Peer Assistance and Review, including case studies, examples of practice, costs and benefits, and labor-management solutions.

Benchmarking non-instructional costs

ODE’s Fiscal Data Project The Ohio Department of Education has compiled a series of fiscal, academic and quality indicators that will help districts begin to compare how efficiently and effectively they are providing services, as compared to others.

Community services

Inspiring Action on Education This vision for education to 2030 in Alberta, Canadam sets high-level direction for change in education through the introduction of a broad-based policy framework for 2030.

Ohio School Facilities Commission Symposium Two leading experts in school design examine the impact of building design in the 21st-century learning environment.        

Partnership for Next Generation Learning A joint venture between the Council of Chief State School Officers and the Stupski Foundation, the Partnership for Next Generation Learning (NxGL) seeks to build the capacity of state education leaders to fully transform public education.

Partnership for 21st Century Skills is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student.

Ohio Evidence-Based Model

AFT Principles for Professional Development This guide provides details for creating professional development programs that empower teachers and lead to measurable progress in student achievement.

National Staff Development Council Standards for Professional Development The NSDC provides guidelines for professional development that improves the learning of all students in three core areas: context standards, process standards, and content standards.

Right-sizing for school districts

Ohio currently has 609 school districts, and some have questioned whether this model of school administration is most conducive to 21st century learning needs.

Michigan State University study Researchers found that Michigan taxpayers could save up to $612 million per year through public school consolidation. The work by MSU's Education Policy Center found that erasing district boundaries and organizing administration around county boundaries would produce those annual savings after three years.

Columbus Dispatch editorial A recent editorial calls for reducing the number of school districts in Ohio.

Greater Ohio and the Brookings Institute report This report recommends reducing the number of Ohio school districts by one-third.

Maine reorganization The state of Maine reorganized its school districts for cost savings and improved educational attainment.

Technology for education

Ohio established a state agency, eTech Ohio, to help Ohio schools acquire, integrate and sustain educational technology.
